About this wine

Indulge in the velvety opulence of Mr Lush Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, a masterpiece crafted by the artisans of Nangkita Estate Vineyards in Southern Fleurieu, Australia. This wine encapsulates the essence of the region’s terroir, a harmonious fusion of nature’s bounty and expert craftsmanship.

Derived from South Australia’s esteemed appellation, the Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 embodies a symphony of flavours meticulously nurtured by dedicated viticulture. The vineyard’s strategic elevation above limestone and temperate Mediterranean climate contribute to grapes of exceptional character. With a controlled 235mm rainfall and an average temperature of 20°C, the vines yield fruit that reflects the essence of the land.

Under the guidance of Nangkita’s skilled winemakers, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a testament to artistry. Natural yeast fermentation preserves the grapes’ inherent character, while a delicate maceration period and minimal interventions honour the terroir. The aging process sees a partial maturation in French oak barrels, with the remainder refining in stainless steel tanks.

In the glass, the Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 unveils a deep purple hue, a prelude to the aromatic journey that follows. Bold and richly fragrant, the wine exudes notes of black currant, mulberry, thyme, and elegant oak spice. The palate is a testament to the craft, offering both excellent weight and persistency.

The wine’s tannic structure is sweet-edged yet assertive, its fine chalky tannins adding a layer of refinement. With a delightful interplay of flavours, the wine’s inherent richness and complexity make each sip a journey of discovery. Whether savoured on its own or paired with gastronomic delights, ‘Mr Lush’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 stands as a tribute to the synergy of nature and human devotion. With every taste, one embarks on a narrative woven from the vines of Southern Fleurieu, an embodiment of sophistication and indulgence.

Southern Fleurieu is a relatively cool climate locale for South Australia and along with the proximity to the sea there is a secondary breath of air blown through the likes of cabernet sauvignon. Mr. Lush may sound like a Reservoir Dogs reference or a guy who drinks too much red wine, but it is in fact a Fleurieu of many delights, dark purple fruit first but also that marine airiness cutting through the ripe and lush constitution. Some meatiness in the form of really good pork sausage and a metal-spice-savoury kick at the finish. Complex stuff indeed. Drink 2022-2024. Value rating: 4/5.

This is a very tasty, juicy and rather charming cabernet, if missing a bit of a structural heft and depth I expect from this grape. It has lifted, slightly confected blackcurrant fruit, some dill and minty greenness and oak spice. It is sweet-edged, yet tannic. Not quite together. Value rating: 3/5.
